Where do we go from here?

Wow. That one word sums up the feeling all over the country today as Ted Kennedy turns in his grave. How is it that the Democrats can go from having their largest Senate majority in decades, a supermajority even, to loosing the lion of the senate's former seat to a Republican? Many will begin to pass the blame onto the weak candidate Coakley, which most likely had something to do with it, but there is alot of blame to spread around. The Democrats over the past year became much to comfortable with their supermajority, allowing the special interests and large corporations control their every move.
Now, everyone wants to know were the Democratic party is to go from here. There is one option that really sticks out in my mind. I believe that the Democrats should learn from this loss, and maybe even realize that America is not happy with the status quo. I know that Democrats are against the status quo, but when you contol all three branches of government, you are the status quo. The Democrats spent an entire year focused on nothing but healthcare. Now, as all my readers know, I want healthcare to get done just as bad as the next guy, but there are other pressing issues at hand. There is still 10% unemplyment, a massive federal deficit and federal debt, and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are escalating everyday. Through all of these problems, what is it that the American people see when they turn on their evening news? The new deal on healthcare, the new compromise on healthcare, the new back room deal on healthcare. This is what we sent Democrats to Washington to do, but only ONE thing that we sent them there for.
Hopefully the Democrats can make up their minds on whether or not they are going to continue with the healthcare debate, or if they are just going to shove the Senate bill down the House's throat. Either way they are going to take a hit pollitically when November 2010 rolls around. If they end the debate and push healthcare off on the next Congress or even the next president (hopefully Hillary Clinton in 2016), then they will take a hit with the liberal-moderate base of the party. If they jam the bill through in the next week or two, then they will take a hit with moderates and independents. There is no easy way out of healthcare, but we can, for now, at least try to make best with what Massachusetts has handed us.

Thank You, God Bless You
