Here's An Idea, Govern!
For the past two years, the Republican Party has been the party of "NO." I understand that this was partly their job considering the voters had banished them to the minority, but this extreme partisanship only got in the way of what the voters sent them there to do, govern. Those on the right like to believe that those on the left never wanted to work with them, and never listened to their ideas. Well, their memories are short. During the healthcare reform debate, the Democrats continuously struck things out of the bill that the Republicans did not care for. This was a sure sign that the Democrats were reaching out to the Republicans, and trying to work together to get something done for the American people. In the end, however, not one Republican in the House or the Senate voted to pass the bill, and in return the American people got screwed. Provisions that would have done the most to help curve costs downward, such as the public option, were removed from the bill for Republican support, a support that never emerged.
On January 3, 2011, the Republicans can no longer be the party of “NO,” since the party will actually have control of one-sixth of the federal government. They too will be directly accountable for what happens in the country over the next two years. So, I can only hope that Republicans will reach across the isle as the Democrats did, because I know that the Democrats are ready to accept.

A Sample of My Work
Here is a forum posting that I was required to do for my Public Leadership in America class that is a part of my PACE certificate. The topic was about partisanship in post-election politics. Enjoy!:

From my professor:
ReplyDelete"Ok! Opinion AND illustrations based on factual occurance to bolster your point. Very nicely done. At some point "governing" has to include agreements based on what will work best for the country and its people. We have to keep pointing it out--with FACTS when it doesn't."

From a classmate:
ReplyDelete" I completely agree with your points in your letter. Now that the Republican Party plays a pivotal role in our American government after the results of the mid-term election it will be very interesting how they tackle the pressing issues our country is facing. Overall great job."
